College Readiness

Steps to College Readiness

1. Take the PSAT test during the fall of Junior Year.

2. Use those results and FREE study plan that comes along with the results to help you prepare for taking the SAT.

3. Take the SAT and/or ACT test towards the end of your Junior Year (March-May).  You may retake if you would like to improve your score but you should be satisified with your score and ready to apply to college by October-November of your Senior year.

4. Most 4 year colleges have application deadlines in December.

PSAT Information:

The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a national test which allows your students the chance to practice taking the SAT test and become familiar with the style of questions.  The test is always administered in October and is set by the College Board.  In order to register for the PSAT, your student needs to sign up with the counselor in September and pay the designated fee (Usually around $16).  The results are available in December.  One of the biggest benefits to your students is that by taking the PSAT, there is a FREE study plan that will be developed based on their strengths and weaknesses through Kahn Academy.  This is a great resources and has been proven to improve their scores.  Visit their website for more information.

Dual Credit

According to our Handbook, Dual credit may be available for students who wish to enroll in college courses while still in high school. Contact the counselor for further information. They must also meet the requirements for enrollment at Blinn College

We are currently partnered with Blinn College.  In accordance with House Bill 1638, all dual credit programs are required to establish a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the IHE and ISD that details the terms of the partnership.
