English as a Second Language
In accordance with 19 TAC 89, students who have a home language other than English are assessed to determine if they need support in English to progress satisfactorily in school. Students who qualify for support services in Iola, are placed in a pull-out program where they receive English as a Second Language instruction. The goal of the program is to ensure that the students become competent in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English.
Iola ISD participates in a Title III Shared Service Agreement Cooperative with Education Service Center 6 in Huntsville. Through this agreement, Iola is allowed to purchase some supplies for the ESL classroom and receive professional development.
