Special Education
Special education covers a wide array of services and ensures that all children receive a free and appropriate education. Federal law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), governs the way school districts admit, review and dismiss students. Iola ISD offers a full continuum of services to meet the needs of all students identified and in need of special education services.
Iola ISD is in a shared service agreement with Grimes County Special Education Cooperative. The Grimes County Cooperative provides a variety of support services to our schools, some instructional supplies and a full time instructional assistant at the secondary school.
We provide services to eligible infants, children and young adults identified with a disability. Federal and state law requires every school district to maintain a Child Find system for locating, evaluating and identifying individuals with disabilities birth through age 21 living in their jurisdiction. For more information on Child Find in Iola, please visit the Grimes County Special Education Cooperative.
